Rentals: Clearstreams, Dumpsters & Rolloffs
Construction and renovation projects, events and even departmental clean outs can generate a lot of waste. University personnel can use the Dearstyne Convenience Site at no cost if they are able to transport the material. For larger amounts of bulk material, Waste Reduction and Recycling also offers the following rentals to support your departmental needs:
Clearstreams – Events
A clearstream is a collapsible bin used for event waste (Visit Zero Waste Events for more info.) Comprised of lightweight metal frames, clearstreams are used when your event may fill the outdoor walkway bins or interior recycling and waste sites that are designated for general use. Clearstreams can be rented as a set: one set includes a collapsible frame, lid and bags for each type of material – landfill, recycling, and compost.
Clearstream event bins are free of charge for events hosted by a recognized NC State Student Organization and small events hosted by NC State Departments. If applicable, there may be charges for clearstreams at large campus events.

Dumpsters – Events or Construction/Renovation Projects
A dumpster is a closed-top container that can hold between 6 and 8 cubic yards. Dumpsters are primarily rented for large events but can also be used for landfill waste, cardboard, mixed recycling and/or composting.
Dumpsters are a billable service.
Not all fees are included in the following rate schedule, such as labor and material disposal costs.

Rolloffs – Construction and Renovation Projects
A rolloff is an open top container that can be utilized for items that cannot be disposed of in University dumpsters such as construction and demolition debris, scrap metal, yardwaste and other bulk waste or recyclable material. Rolloff sizes can hold between 17 and 20 cubic yards of material. NC State University Surplus Property Services also facilitates the removal, repurposing, and resale of unwanted but usable department materials. University Surplus Property Services will pick up items and make them available for acquisition by any department at the University.
