Carpets, couches, and mattress toppers – oh my!

It’s that time of year, Wolfpack. Another academic year is wrapping up, caffeine levels are peaking, and soon you’ll be packing up your things while reminiscing about the memories, friendships, and good times you’ve had.

But here’s the thing: after finals, when everyone’s rushing to start summer vacation, thousands of pounds of perfectly good stuff end up in the landfill. Yikes.

What if you could help change that story?

Meet Pack-N-Give: your go-to for donating instead of dumping

Pack-N-Give is a partnership between University Housing and Waste Reduction & Recycling designed to reduce landfill waste during Move Out. Instead of tossing your unwanted items, donate them to a good cause – right here on campus. Your donations go to amazing community partners like Feed The Pack Food Pantry and TROSA, a local nonprofit.

Here’s what Wolfpack generosity looked like last year: 

  • ♻️25,260 lbs donated to TROSA
  • 🛏️2,092 lbs of mattress toppers recycled
  • 🥫1,317 lbs of food donated to Feed The Pack

This year, we’re aiming even higher – and we need your help!

  • Drop off items in Pack-N-Give Packrat Pods located all across campus.

✅What can I donate?

  • Reusable items in good condition:
    • Furniture & Home Goods
    • Rugs & Carpets
    • Clothing &Shoes (laundered and bagged – no undergarments)
    • Bedding (laundered and bagged – no pillows)
    • Mattress Toppers (any condition – bag or roll up)
    • School Supplies, Books, Electronics
    • Books
    • Rugs/carpets
    • Electronics
    • Non-perishable food (unopened, individually wrapped)
    • Toiletries & Cleaning Supplies (sealed, not necessarily new)
  • Pro tip: When in doubt, donate it! Our staff will sort through and determine what’s usable.

📆When can I donate?

  • Packrats are open daily from 8:00 AM – 10:00 PM
    • April 21: Packrats open
    • May 2: Central & North Campus Packrats close
    • May 5: Remaining campus Packrats close

Before you toss everything into a dumpster, take a second to think: Can this be used again? Can I help someone else out? 

By donating your stuff, you’re keeping items out of the landfill, supporting neighbors in need, and making a real difference. It is Earth Month, after all! Let’s end the year strong, Wolfpack💪🌍
